Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park lies in Kiruhura District – Western part of Uganda. By road, east of Mbarara, Lake Mburo National Park is about 236 km from Kampala, the largest city and capital city of Uganda. Then 30 km from the nearby Mbarara town.

This Park ranks the nearest to Kampala and an ultimate stopover for those visiting numerous Parks and reserves in Western Uganda.

Its lush habitats that consists of savannah grasslands, rain-forests, woodlands and swampy areas is home to a diverse range of Wildlife species including Wild animals, primates, birds, insects and reptiles.

For tailor made Uganda Wildlife safaris, Lake Mburo National Park is hard to ignore. It is recorded with unique features that are incomparable with other parks in Uganda. Travelers rate it as the best place in Uganda to behold large numbers of topi, impala, antelope bovid to mention but a few.

The waters of the lake draws a pod of hippos together with crocodiles. Swampy areas reserve more space for the rare black sitatunga as well as black and yellow papyrus gonalek species of birds.

How to get there.

You can only visit this Park by road transport means. From Kampala, the usual route used is Kampala – Masaka – Mbarara high way including the stop over at the equator.  It is about 236 km from Kampala to Lake Mburo and it can take about 5-6 hours for the drive. Time taken usually depends on speed used and stop overs included.

If not direct from Kampala, you can as well connect to Lake Mburo National park from other parks in Western Uganda like Kibale Forest National Park, Murchison and more.

Activities

Lake Mburo National Park has plenty of mind-blowing pursuits to turn your Uganda Wildlife Safari one of a life time.

Game drives. This is all about driving around the Park surbubs using a suitable 4×4 wheel drive Safari vehicle with pop up roof.

With this you are exposed to a range of Lake Mburo’s Wild life species such as Wild animals like elephants, buffaloes, topi, kobs and more, Primates, Reptiles and numerous bird species.

Boat ride. Boat ride along Lake Mburo awards opportunities of beholding various aquatic species. These aquatic species include Hippopotamus, Lizards, water birds and Crocodiles.

More than that, the cruise rewards with sweeping views of the rolling hills with terraces, vast landscapes and luxuriant vegetation along the shores.

Nature Walks. if you wish to get closer to nature than sighting it from a distance, be part of the daily offered guide nature walks via trails that traverses the park surbubs.

During nature walks you are exposed to more species that you can’t see when seated in a vehicle. It costs $30 USD per person.
